Low Park is a detached remote 4 bedroom cottage about 250 years old, set in 1.9 acres of grounds. It is set about 1/4 mile back, along a track, from the A713 Ayr-Castle Douglas road. It is next to Loch Ken and the Galloway Forest Park beyond. It has 3 double bedrooms and one twin bedroom, sleeping 8 people in total. There is a wood-fired hot tub nestled out the back of the house. It has a sun room, dining room with log burner, lounge and garden room. If you are looking for tranquility it would be hard to beat Low Park. ...Apart from the songbird life! We would like to offer our holiday home for people who want to take the time to fully unwind (and also to save our own wellbeing from frequent turnarounds) for a week at a time.
The kitchen-dining area is fully equipped to suit all self-catering needs: it includes microwave, larder-style fridge and large ice box, dishwasher and washing machine/tumble dryer. Water is sourced from its own well, filtered, sterilised and double-pumped to ensure an excellent water pressure enabling, for example, both showers to run simultaneously.
It is located beside the Galloway Dark Sky Park, near to the Galloway Outdoors Activity Centre and accessible to the Loch Ken Marshes nature reserve. It is suitable for hikers, bikers, wildlife watchers, water sport enthusiasts or anglers. Nearby Dalry, through which the Southern Upland Way passes, has pubs, serving excellent food, a licensed post office/grocers and there are also hotels and, even closer, The Ken Bridge Hotel, is renowned for food with its splendid carvery and restaurant. There is a golf course and art gallery/café less than 2 miles away in New Galloway.
Of interest, the River Ken is part of the Galloway hydro-electric power scheme, built in the 1930s and is still fully operational.
Two king-sized beds, one double and a twin room.
Downstairs, the sun room is situated on the southern aspect of the house. This is adjacent to the lounge, from which the dining room with cosy wood burner can be accessed through one door or the hallway with stairs and downstairs bathroom through the other. The dining room joins up at the far (northern) end with the kitchen/dining area which may also be accessed from the hallway. There is a downstairs bedroom, towards the west, off the kitchen. The main entrance to the house is through the kitchen via an integral garage with electronic roll-up door. There is a garden room off the west aspect of the garage with double patio doors leading to sheltered garden area and hot tub. Through these doors is the main entrance to the property as a whole.
The panelled hallway, leads to stairs, at the top of which is the upstairs double bedroom. This room, with a king-sized sleigh bed, looks out over the driveway to the east and through a velux window to the west, from which Loch Ken may be glimpsed.
The upstairs bathroom with shower looks out over the driveway to the East. The landing winds around to two further bedrooms (the double and twin). The double room looks east, while the velux window in the twin room faces south.
There is ample parking and turning space in the area between the old stone-built barn and the wood shed. There is also parking for a couple of cars beside the cottage if this is preferred. There are mature trees, bushes and hedges all around. Gates lead to farmland and down to the edge of Loch Ken. The hot tub is situated at the rear of the property, from which there are steps leading up to lawned area with wooden bench. A mowed path around the perimeter allows a casual stroll around the meadowed area, incorporating 21 oak trees (and some others) and a wild rose hedge through its middle, giving the most delicious evening scent. There is a wooden table and benches at the back of the house catching evening sunshine, if you like to dine or play cards al fresco.

South facing sun room
In addition to strolls around the periphery of the garden, there is some lovely walking southwards out of the garden and along the Loch. Northwards there is a shorter walk over some fields and that winds around an inlet/bay. Within a short drive (don't walk along the A713) there are also many beautiful walks. There is ramp access to the single step front door. One king sized bed is in the downstairs bedroom. There is a shower, toilet and wash basin downstairs. The shower is in a cubicle with step up.
Low Park is about 2 hours from Glasgow. From the North, travel south on the M77, becoming the A77. Follow the A77 as it skirts Prestwick Airport and then Ayr until the turn-off for the A713 to Castle Douglas. Low Park is about 35 miles along the A713 on the right. Pass through St John's Town of Dalry, pass the Ken Bridge Hotel on the right side and the second property on the right is High Park. Low Park is the next turning on the right hand side.
From the South, travel north on the M6 and pass the turn-off for Gretna from the M74. This almost immediately precedes the turn: as the road becomes the A74(M) take the exit immediately after, the A75 signposted Dumfries and Stranraer. Follow the A75; it becomes the Dumfries by-pass and continues west towards Stranraer. It becomes a by-pass for Castle Douglas and soon after this the A713 exit north may be seen on the right side of the road. Take this exit and follow the A713. It passes through Parton and past the Loch Ken Marina on the left side. When you see the outdoors activity centre, there is about 1 mile to go. Low Park may be seen set back from the road and the laneway is just beyond a copse of trees on the left side.
There is plenty of parking available
Situated remotely down a lane, shared with the neighbour farmer at High Park. The property is surrounded by farmland, growing hay and supporting sheep and cattle.
